Still snow. Still cold. Still pissed.

Since Old Man Winter just doesn't seem to want to heed my pleas to LEAVE - we are trying to enjoy what we can. Which means winter playground sliding, of course. You know how much faster you go down in wet snowpants as opposed to sticky summer legs in shorts? Go out and try it tonight.

Simba #2

Meet Simba #2, replacement to little Simba (not to be confused with tiny Simba) who was lost at TGI Fridays when Auntie turned her back. Read little Simba's story here. Tes likes to recount this story ("I left Simba at the restaurant!") in which you are supposed to respond by pretend crying and loudly proclaiming "Oh Simba!". Shaking your fists in horror and complete defeat at the heavens above during your crying jag earns you extra points. She thinks it is all very amusing. Though, Brad and I are a tad concerned that she likes to make people cry so much... even if it is pretend crying.

As for replacement Simba? So far so good. Tes loves 'Yellow Simba' as she has named him, and the balance seems to have been restored to the universe.

So, you know, life is good. Because the world does revolve around lions, right?

What an excellent day for an exorcism.

For Auntie

This post is for you, Auntie, because I know how much Tes enjoys sharing with you what happens when she eats this much blue frosting.

( * bEeP! * )

Is it wrong for a mother to offer fish sticks to her daughter as a lunch-time choice so often because privately she thinks it is quite amusing that said daughter pronounces it 'bitch sticks'?

If so, well... then I just don't want to be right.

R.I.P.

To our beloved Little Simba :

Sure, Little One has Green Simba, fuzzy lion, Nala, Zazu, tiny Simba that she likes to pretend is biting her so I will reprimand him, tiny Bad Lion who roars, and Tiny Nala - but it is you that Tesfu would drag to daycare each day. It was you that was her roaring companion as she chased the cat around the house. It was you that was her sleepytime compadre. And it was you that Tesfu insisted she take into TGI Friday's that fateful night.

Whether you were left at the restaurant, dropped in the parking lot, or just lost in the abyss that is Auntie's car, we will never find out. But, please know Auntie and Tesfu's mommy drove back to that restaurant to harass the workers and search the parking lot at MIDNIGHT searching for you.

So yes, a replacement has been ordered. But, dear Little Simba, please know that not even Amazon.com can truly replace you - well, number one because no matter where we searched we just couldn't find one that looked just like you. (Damn Disney and their "locked in the vault" b.s.!) But secondly, because you had roared your way into Tesfu's heart, and that can never be forgotten.

Rest in peace.

Fun(ny) Day

My little Tesfu still is not back up to her normal self - her constant snot leaking is really dragging her down (oh - and us, too). "Mom! Nose running again!" has become our house's anthem. Well, today Brad started at his new job (yippee!)and I had off for President's Day. So, the mucus leaking kiddo and I had the day to just veg together. And there was crying. All day crying. And she never cries. Sure we have the normal three year old whining, pouting, and occasional tempter tantrums - but never real tears.
So I did a lot of deep breathing and silent counting, we took it easy and for the most part except for some errands that absolutely had to be done. We hung around the house and somehow managed through the day.
By 6:30 I was exhausted, and decided to take full advantage of the fact that Tesfu cannot yet read clocks and declared bedtime a full hour before our normaly scheduled program. As I sat in the dark wishing for her to just fall asleep so I could salvage what was left of the day, she proclaimed :
"I had a funny day with Mommy today. We ate frosties, played outside, and watched the frog movie. I love you! Goodnight!"

You know, you are right, sweetie - it was a good day. Thank you for reminding me.

Yawn...

Are you bored with this blog? Yep, some changes are a' comin' - because I am boring myself, too.

But, until then, I apologize for my lack of updating for the last week. Both my Tesfu and I had been battling a war against a nasty cold and the all-around winter blahs. The good news is that the illness seems to be wrapping up for both of us - and besides coming home nine months ago so sick, this is really the first time Tes has caught anything. So, at least we know her immune system is working!

In the meantime, I will try to pull my head out of my behind and update a little more often.

Peace.

Clarifications...

In the 10/26/08 post, found here, when I was comparing my sweet daughter to the Olympic medalist Micheal Phelps - I was eluding to the picture shown, where she demonstrates her very Phelps-like, seemingly perfect, pre-dive swimming pose.

Not this picture, demonstrating his best ganja smokin' abilities.

Aww- come on. I don't care who you are, that is some funny stuff. I mean, really, tell me you read this quote without cracking just the smallest of smiles :

He looked just as natural with a bong in his hands as he does swimming in the pool. He was the gold medal winner of bong hits.

Yep, its the little things in life, isn't it?
